𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 4: 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙩 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘸𝘢 𝘈𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘴 2022 – 35𝙢𝙞𝙣 The film follows a collaborative project that attempts to shift the status of a private land in the North of Lebanon to a common or a social waqf. The aim would be to advance the right of usership over ownership. The land would only be used by people who do not own land for agricultural purposes. The film follows this process. Matter and land become a witness to a certain history of non-ownership. The interconnectedness of the geological, the historical, the legal, and the agricultural brings forward a kind of ecology of thought whose purpose is communalisation and rehabilitation. Different voices, film, and print materials are used to explore this history. What does it mean to play the role of a freedom fighter? What does it mean to become an icon? Between role-playing and political projects, how does the constitution of the subject serve certain political purposes? 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘸𝘢 𝘈𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘴’ practice tackles structural and infrastructural questions using different devices, forms, and strategies. From architectural spaces, their transformation and adaptability within the conflict, to artist-run spaces and temporary conventions between feminist communes and cooperatives, the practice tends to open up interstice within and parallel to existing art structures allowing experimentation with different kinds of politics. Arsanios was a researcher in the Fine Art Department at the Jan Van Eyck Academie, Maastricht (2010–12). She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna. F
